Sara's Photo of the Day

A documentation of my daily adventures.

Laura and Dane arrived in Boston at 7:30 am, and Richard and I were there to pick them up from the airport and zip up to Maine!  I’m so excited to spend the next few days with family!  Here you can see Laura is spiking our coffees with some of the chai liqueur Richard bought for Mom…it was REALLY good!

I FINALLY found time to print my “Partridge in a Pear Tree” prints - with only a few days left before Christmas…I still want to hand paint all of them, so I might not get them in the mail before Christmas…I’m just glad they’re printed - I’m happy with the results!  Thanks for the press Uncle Bud!  These prints are in honor of you.

Things are winding down at work - today we had our staff holiday lunch (at Redbones BBQ - it was SO good!) and got to go home early.  My colleague Rachel and I headed into Davis Square before lunch to meet with a friend over coffee at Diesel Cafe.  Here’s a photo of my yummy mocha.  One more day of work and then 11 days off!! WOOHOO!

Today is the first day of Hanukkah, so I decided to try my hand at latkes - but I made mne with sweet potatoes.  I added a little cinnamon and had them with applesauce…they were pretty good!  Happy Hanukkah to my Jewish friends!

The 17th was our “engagementaversary” - the anniversary of when we got engaged two years ago…we were too busy on Saturday to celebrate, so we had some champagne tonight instead.  I love you Andrew!

This morning we got up really early, and headed to the Boston waterfront to hop on a boat with some of Andrew’s future co-workers (he got a job with the National Park Service on the Boston Harbor Islands!) for a stewardship day at Thompson Island.  We put on boots and waders and helped to pull up netting where they had seeded clams a few months ago.  We also helped clear some invasive plants - multi-flora rose, to be exact.  It was a fun energizing day (even though it was COLD).  It was so cool to see what Andrew will be doing starting in January!

Andrew made a stromboli today (with Janice’s recipe) to eat tomorrow when we have friends over to watch the Ravens game.  He had to make it today because we’ll be spending the first part of tomorrow helping out with a stewardship on one of the Boston Harbor Islands.

Andrew and I did our volunteer water sampling for MyRWA (Mystic River Watershed Association) early this morning, and got to watch the sun rise over the Tobin bridge as we dropped off our samples.  So cold but SO BEAUTIFUL!  Also, as we were driving home, we had to stop to take a photo of a Christmas tree lot that was not only selling trees, but was selling “kissing balls” and “cemetery logs” - have you ever heard of a cemetery log?

We got our Tisch Scholar sweatshirts in today!!! One of the Scholars drew the elephant design (Tufts’ mascot is the “Jumbo” - click here for more info on Jumbo: http://www.tufts.edu/home/get_to_know_tufts/history/jumbo/).  They are so comfortable!

Today is my sister’s birthday (Happy Birthday Laura!), and it is also my boss Mindy’s birthday as well.  I know Mindy loves sweets - especially Italian sweets, and since I had a meeting in Cambridge this morning, I stopped by Flour (an AMAZING bakery) and picked up a few things for Mindy.  I saw these cookies called “Ossi di Morti” - they looked yummy, and sounded Italian, so I bought them.  When I gave them to Mindy, she asked me if I knew what they meant - I said no, and she explained that Ossi di Morti means “Bones of Death”.  That’s right, I gave Mindy BONES OF DEATH on her birthday!  ha.  (She loved them, but it was a funny moment…)
